Riversleigh’s Oligo-Miocene sites are divided into Faunal Zones and colour coded as follow:
- Faunal Zone A (FZA): late Oligocene (23.03–28.4 million years old)
- Faunal Zone B (FZB): early Miocene (15.97-23.03 million years old)
- Faunal Zone C (FZC): middle Miocene (11.608-15.97 million years old)
- Faunal Zone D (FZD): late Miocene (5.332-11.608 million years old)
Riversleigh’s Rackham Roost Site is Pliocene (PLIO) in age (2.588-5.332 million years old).
Riversleigh’s Terrace Site is Pleistocene (PLEIS) in age (0.0117-2.588 million years old).
Riversleigh’s Carrington’s Cave and Message Stick Cave are Holocene (HOLO) in age (117 000 years old to present).
